Attention Odyssey Project mods! If you need this image in a larger size, please let me know! As I am selling prints, I have set it to not allow downloads of the large original image!

Lysanna felt a sudden change in her breathing, and knew than [sic] that something had happened to her Progeny.

Submission for Odyssey Project II chapter 3 (runner up). Super fun to work on this chapter.

I actually took some time and really tried to do a proper painting, instead of merely laying down some random color as a background for my lines. Painting and color palette choice are weaknesses for me, which I am aware of. Taking this into consideration, I think I did a good job.

Which is why it's a shame that it didn't scan properly...

Usually I use hot pressed paper, which has a smooth texture, and it scans beautifully. In fact the scans look better than the originals, I find! But I'm running out of it, so I used cold pressed paper which has a much rougher texture. The rough texture messes with the scanner lights, and it never scans as nicely, no matter what settings I fool around with. A lot of subtle detail gets lost in the scan. And I didn't have the time or motivation or skill to photograph it. Too busy this weekend. I'm hoping that you all still like it. After all, you don't have the original to compare it to!

(I see that I suddenly have been given a premium membership for one month, so I am "requesting critique" for this deviation. I welcome critiques on all my work. I miss the in-depth, unflinching crits I used to get while in art school. One detailed explanation of something you don't like and how you would fix it is SO MUCH more useful than a million short "I like this!" comments. Not that I don't appreciate those too, of course. Just feel free to tell me what's not working. How else am I supposed to get better?)

Acrylic ink with some corrections made in photoshop.

It's like staring in the face of true nature. The work captures duality at its finest. It is both scary and beautifully graceful. It feels at once human but obviously monstrous. Its drooling maw of needle sharp teeth are diametrically balanced by the softness draw of its soft, round, almost yearning eyes.

It is especially clever the way you've rendered the head in strong line work while keeping the body virtually free of lines. It produces a strong imagery of a deep sea fish where the ears are fins. The organic lines flowing upwards is also a nice touch reminiscent of seaweed stretching towards the water's surface.

The only aspect to snap the viewer out of the aquatic reference is the red hued liquid drooling out of the mouth unaffected by apparent fluid forces everywhere else.

Your use of color is dynamic, interesting, and appropriate for the imagery. I gave you 4 stars for vision and originality because it's an obvious fusion of things we know in the real world.

Overall the work is a top notch illustration!
