***PLEASE DO NOT REPOST MY IMAGES.***
I'm flattered, and link back to me if you want, but never take them and repost them anywhere. I can't control where my art is going on the internet if people are copy and pasting my stuff where ever they feel like.
So guess what I watched over the holidays.
Here's a doodle that's I guess the waltz from the final sequence. I love Sweeney Todd, I love macabre subject matter like this, but dammit, everything I draw looks CUTE. So perhaps stuff like this is best left to other folks. *sob*
And guess what, no, it's not bloody Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter. I loved the movie, guys, but seriously if you have any interest in the story beyond "ZOMG JOHNNY DEPP IS TEH SEX" then you need to do your research. You sir, too sir! Go and see the musical!
There is a great 1982 recording of the national tour on DVD, and it has Angela Lansbury as Mrs Lovett! How awesome is that! There is also a very elegant 2001(2?) in-concert version that Sondheim liked so much, he specifically requested that they film it. How awesome. George Hearne is Sweeny in both versions and he rocks my socks. Take a peek at these and then you get to hear Sweeney sung in baritone, and you get to see the songs that got cut from/edited down in the movie.
(warning about the 1982 version though, Johanna looks and souds absolutely hideous....)
Also, apparently the newest revival tour is in the states right now. (They only did one city in Canada, boohoo!)
ANYWAYS. Expect a few more pages of doodles here in a bit, because I've been procrastinating like mad with this stuff lately.
Did you ever see Patti LuPone do Mrs Lovett? She does quite a good job too I thought, a more scheming sophisticated character I thought, and a lovely voice...

"Why do we need to think? Can't we just sit here and go BLBLBLBLBLB with our lips for a bit?"
The made a recording of the 2001 in-concert version, which has no set and very spare props, but it's still the entire show and I think it's quite elegant. If you search for "sweeney todd in concert" on ebay or amazon it'll pop up. If you don't mind it chopped into little low-quality parts though the whole thing has been uploaded to youtube... the first part is here.
I wasn't very impressed by her intro song but I think if you give her a while she'll grow on you! Her duet with Tobias was quite sweet.
... and it's got George Hearne back. ^_^
....and also a longer version of the beggar woman's lullaby that gives me a lump in my throat to watch, that seems to have been cut from every other version.

Really? I'm looking at it now and yes, I agree. The intro is rather.. ick. But she has a sort of crazy theater girl apperance to her that makes me smile. It makes me rather sad to see the lack of props. That really makes the intro to Lovett's wonderful! I remember trying out to be Mrs. Lovett myself for our school play and all the flour made me choke out my line at a practice, but the crowd loved it at the opening night!

To this day the only German phrase I know is "Oh my God! There's an axe in my head!" "Ah, meine Gott! Dort ist die axt in meine kopf!"
Great picture! I love Sweeney's maniacal grin.
The characters actually look very similar in style to the ones in the poster for the original Broadway production. Was that the intention?
I love this, was it based on the artwork on the original cast cd cover? Because bravo! I love his expression and your love for that best cast of all time +fav
