Artist's Comments

Aaah, deviantart. Thanks to changes in the submission system, on this browser I am now completely unable to upload to any category other than my frequent categories. I'm hoping this is just a temporary glitch and they get things moving again.

AT any rate, this was a doodle I did in media class today... A friend of mine lent me a graphic novel with beautiful artwork, and I decided to try something that was somewhat in the same style vein. I also wanted to try to force myself to really use a reference JUST for REFERNCE, instead of just trying to copy all the proportions and features exactly the way they were. (the model I used was actually very young and attractive)

It's kind of a catch 22 though. You want to learn about different artist's works and you want to be inspired and get ideas, but you do not want to just copy. You have to find a way to adapt it to yourself and make it something new.

Watercolor, chalk and gouache on textured paper. Unfortunately it didn't scan very well.

Ok, now we're screwing things up MY way.
